trying to darcs get from a server on my lan.  (the live version of this same

Do you find that this still an issue with Darcs 1.0.9 or a Darcs2 build? 

It sounds related to this issue about permissions (which still exists)

If that's the case, you can check the permissions on parent directories as a
workaround, and see if you can "cd" to the full path the repository.

This bug report from 2006 is now "presumed-dead". It may be the same issue as
another bug which has been resolved, and the poster has been unresponsive for
follow-up feedback for a month.  No one else has reported quite the same problem
in the last two years that I'm aware of.
