Brett Neumeier once suggested that it should be possible to build Darcs without
GHC.  He didn't quite have this in mind, but his suggestion led to the point
that we should (one day!) be able to build Darcs with compilers other than GHC.

I don't see this happening any time soon, but I'll track it anyway :-)

Potential issues that came up when we discussed this last:
* libraries that require GHC
* low-level optimisations
* GADTs (thanks, Ian)
