Network get is way slow according to mornfall, and he says he's going to fix it.

Naturally, this depends on how Petr and Reinier feel, but I personally vote for bumping this to 2.5 and fixing things like issue1677 and issue1710 first. Besides, if I understand correctly, the pristine-tarball option involves implementing a new format mechanism (issue1647), which I personally would rather we had more time to dogfood.

It looks like the preferred way of fixing these is issue1771 (the tarball idea) and issue1773 (optimize --http)

It appears that either issue1771 or issue1773 will sufficient address this, and this ticket can be closed. I'm marking as 'duplicate'.
