The banner image at the top left of http://bugs.darcs.net/ has the
string "darcs" embedded in it (which is, arguably, a bad idea of
itself).

When using a white-on-black theme, this string is unreadable, because
it's black-on-transparent and transparent becomes black,
i.e. black-on-black.

Suggest using a thick white stroke around the letters, similar to the
style used by GNOME's "HighContrastLargePrintInverse" icon theme.

Where does bugs.darcs.net give you the opportunity to use a different theme, so
that this issue can be triggered?

Web browsers are allowed to provide their own theme and discard the
content provider's suggestions (i.e. CSS).  I have configured mine to
do so because I find 1) a consistent colour scheme across all sites
less confusing; and 2) staring at a white screen is as bad as staring
at a lightbulb.

It would be "Bad Design" to assume that content is rendered according
to the colour suggestions in CSS.  It's also bad design to encrypt
text inside an image, because this makes it inaccessible to browsers
that render to braille readers, speakers, and character cell displays
(e.g. terminal emulators).  This is why I suggested (upthread) moving
the string "darcs" out of the image and into the <h2> heading.

I admit that this is a minor issue, because the image in question is
just a banner.  But it's still an issue.

I agree with both your points of feedback and am marking this as a deferred
wishlist item. We may need access to the source graphic to reproduce it as you
suggest.

Sounds like it would be easy enough to modify our default templates to use
logo_only.png and have darcs text as an h2.
