This patch was needed specifically for OSX because the space confuses a 
wrapper script that works around a different problem with GHC. However 
the PACKAGE_VERSION_STATE macro appears to be obsolete so just removing 
it makes sense.

does it worth to distribute a binary specifically compiled under maverick?
it doesn't sound so. maybe we can mention on the download page that
the mountain lion build is compatible with mavericks too.

I can't see any need for a binary for Mavericks if earlier ones are 
compatible.

Of course we should support people who want to build on Mavericks 
themselves (and this patch is actually just cleaning up old cruft 
anyway).
