Right now darcs is executing mc if mcedit is specified as system-wide
editor with update-alternatives in ubuntu. This is most-likely an mc bug
but $DARCS_EDITOR seems to be completely ignored in this case (darcs 2.8.4)

Having ability to explicitly set editor on per-repo and globally in
properties (the same way it's done with email) would help to resolve
this - provided that preferences actually works, unlike env. variables.
