As reported on-list (http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.version-
control.darcs.user/14045), mail to bugs@darcs.net is currently bouncing with
"Unrouteable address". Simon and David are slowly debugging this. If you are
expert in debugging this exim error, please get in touch with sm on #darcs.
Until this is resolved, please report bugs via the web, not by sending mail. I
have updated the bug reporting instructions at bugs.darcs.net.

I just got a too-many-files-open error when editing a bug in the web interface.
It went away when I restarted postgresql. Could this be related to the email
trouble? If so, we really ought to figure out why postgresql is leaking file
handles.

Could we make the darcs-devel mailing list nosy on all issues? I just entered a
reponse from twb to issue1095 by hand, using the Web interface, but that mail
didn't seem to be adressed at anyone but some selected individuals. That is, I
was not able to get it from any mailing list archive.

Just a suggestion.

Best regards
Thorkil

Thorkil,

I'm only going to be happy with that change after we've added some other way to
users to achieve the current functionality of only being notified of new issues.
Otherwise, I'll just suggest that anyone who wants that level of spamming
should configure themselves to be nosy on all issues.

Personally, I don't want that much email, and I know how to look at the bug
tracker using the web interface. I suspect that there are others who feel the same.

Thorkil, let's discuss that issue on issue1085.
msg6193 (view) Author: simon Date: 2008-10-01.19:25:51
Re. "too many files open" error - yes it would be nice to resolve that. I'm fairly
sure it's unrelated though. I've seen this intermittently for brief durations
since the beginning. (Also another error triggered by doing several simultaneous
requests.)

I'm currently stuck. Here's what I know:

- mail to tracker was bouncing with unrouteable address, this stopped happening
yesterday.

- Now mail is being delivered to |/usr/bin/procmail /etc/darcs_bugs_procmailrc
again, apparently without error. Bugs are still not being created.

- Doing this does create a bug: echo ~/testmsg | /usr/bin/roundup-mailgw
/var/lib/roundup/trackers/darcs

- I have changed /etc/darcs_bugs_procmail_rc to save the incoming message to a
writable file for examination. I can see this working when I do: cat ~/testmsg |
/usr/bin/procmail /etc/darcs_bugs_procmailrc

- but when I send mail, nothing is saved to that file.

What is this telling us ? Ideas welcome! I'll have to come back to this later.

About my suggestion to make darcs-devel nosy on all issues: I didn't make myself clear, I meant it only as
a temporary measure, while the present issue has not been resolved, to guard against mails getting
completely lost. I wouldn't want it to be permanent.

Best regards
Thorkil

Unassigning as I will soon be offline for three days. I've suggested David try an
exim restart and a switch to postfix.
msg6206 (view) Author: droundy Date: 2008-10-02.19:42:06
I think this is fixed. It turns out that the problem was that I had given Simon
write permission to one of the files used in mail delivery, and presumably the
security-conscious exim was afraid this was a vulnerability. Or maybe it just
fixed itself?

A cautious three cheers from me! What led you to find that ?

Just thinking about timings, and that there had to be a cause. So I
thought it must either be something you changed or something I
changed. Since you've been working hard on this (and know what you've
done), I figured it was likely something that I'd done, and I haven't
made all that many changes recently.

Interestingly, Thorkil, your message requesting a volunteer does not
appear on the bug tracker. Perhaps this is telling?

This message is sent by email only.

This was entered using the Web interface: I have attached a mail that I presume should have
ended up in the darcs bug tracker and didn't. There are two versions: The sent version and the
received version (I cc'ed myself), as recorded by my mail client.

This is hoping that it will help to determine what goes on here.

Best regards
Thorkil

So now I am trying to respond to this, to see whether it ends up in the bug
tracker.

Thorkil,

I found this message in the moderation queue. The best way to ensure
messages make it through in a timely manner is to subscribe the address
before sending. I do try to check the queue often, but that just means
roughly daily.

Sorry for an inconveniences,
Jason

And, indeed, it seems to be. So now I'll just wait until this message (sent by
email) appears on the bug tracker, then I'll close the issue.

Thank you everybody for your patience.
