I see there are three issues with this error message (although none
from a "push") in the tracker for a while now.
The push does not succeed. Does anyone know what I should do to work
around this or fix it?

I downloaded the source code.
This message is issued on line 243 of Depends.lhs when a call to
commute results in Nothing.
I'm afraid my knowledge of the interior workings of darcs is pretty limited.
Any help you can give me very much appreciated.

Oh dear. Rather shamefacedly I have to admit that if I pull from the
remote repository first then push this problem goes away.
I'll make sure I'm awake before posting a bug next time, promise!
(I suppose it still might be useful to know that this bug still occurs
even if it is easy to work around, so I won't beat myself up too
badly!)
